In 2001, Joseph Mangano of the Radiation and Public Health Group (RPHP) received a call telling him that collected, but untested, baby teeth had been discovered in storage at Washington University in St. Louis. They were ultimately transferred to RPHP, and preliminary publicity about the teeth resulted in several hundred contacts from people who had donated teeth as children. Many reported cancers in themselves and in their children. The most common type was thyroid cancer, which is strongly linked to bomb test fallout. But with no funding available to test the remaining St. |

After taking dental x-rays (another health hazard, as new research is showing), my dentist fed me a scare story about how I still had all my wisdom teeth, and that all those teeth needed to be surgically removed. I was absolutely stunned.
My wisdom teeth were working just fine: no cavities, no pain, no problems. I had made an appointment for a routine checkup, not to undergo expensive surgery for my wisdom teeth. But my dentist insisted, relying on a variety of scare tactics to try to convince me to undergo this expensive -- and completely unnecessary -- procedure. |

Bruxism
Bruxism is characterized by grinding the teeth during sleep. Approximately 5% of adults and 15% of children experience chronic bruxism.35 Usually this condition doesn't cause sleep deprivation or associated health and psychological problems unless it is very severe. However, any teeth-grinding can damage the teeth, bones, gums, and jaw joint.
Many people believe bruxism serves as an outlet for releasing stress experienced during the day. However, doctors contend it's the body's way of trying to correct structural problems in the mouth. |
| Nocturnal chewing action may be an attempt to grind upper and lower teeth for a better fit. Teeth-grinding may also be the result of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome. Dentists often prescribe a mouth guard; although it doesn't eliminate the grinding instinct, it does protect the teeth from damage.
Bed-Wetting
Clinically known as sleep enuresis, bed-wetting is a common occurrence in toddlers and is only recognized as a disorder after the age of 5. It is estimated that 3% of youths between the ages of 12 and 18 suffer from chronic sleep enuresis. |

Mouth, teeth, and Gums ook at your mouth, teeth, and gums. Floss and brush your teeth carefully at least daily, ideally twice a day. Arc your gums red, sore, or swollen? Do they bleed when you brush them? Are your gums pulling away from your teeth? While dental diseases are very common for everyone, people with diabetes experience more of these problems, especially if blood sugar control is poor. High blood sugar encourages the growth of bacteria, increasing plaque buildup on your teeth. This contributes to redness, swelling, and bleeding of gums. |

We brush our teeth using plastic toothbrushes generously dappled with one of the most toxic substances known to humankind — sodium fluoride, otherwise known as fluoride. We've been told that fluoride is good for our teeth. Not so. It is a known hazardous, poisonous, toxic waste by-product of the aluminum, phosphate fertilizer and other industries. This has been known for years, but we passively accept the big, fat lie about the benefits of fluoride, pumped into our water supply and mixed into our dental hygiene products. |

After starting the Vitamin D Cure, he had great results: the pain in his teeth and jaw stopped, his joint/muscle pain resolved, and his teeth were no longer loose.
People with extensive tooth loss almost always have low vitamin D levels and low bone mass. Calcium and vitamin D supplementation, however, can reduce their rate of tooth loss. Early tooth loss and tooth/gum pain also are symptoms of inadequate bone production, accelerated bone turnover, and/or bone loss. |

Studies are showing that tooth decay is declining in both fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas, while dental fluorosis, a condition in children characterized by white spotted, yellow, brown-stained, or sometimes crumbly teeth, is on the rise, and more so in fluoridated areas. Intake of excess fluoride (through toothpaste, fluoridated water, and fluoride supplements) can cause dental fluorosis.20

Teething Pain
Because a baby's first four front teeth are so sharp, they tend to appear without much fanfare (when the baby is about six months old). The arrival of flat molars a month or two later is a different story. If your baby experiences pains from teething, give her a bottle of Calming Tea (see page 237) diluted with an equal amount of water, then rub the baby's gums with a clove teething oil. Your child will probably also enjoy a hard teething biscuit to gnaw on—try a mini-bagel. |

You 're not thinking about your body, you're not thinking about your teeth, you're thinking, "I'm going to die if I don't do this. I'm saving my life." It kept the pain from coming up.
My thinking wasn't rational; it was thinking like that 5-year-old. So your emotions take over and you 're not saying, "This is bad for my teeth." That's what a compulsion is. There's no room for rationalization, unless it's in the direction of, "I can throw up because I eat a bunch of cheese and it wasn't good for me anyway." You can rationalize that way. |

Avoid the © Lash Comb ($10), which features metal teeth that can be severely damaging if you inadvertently scratch your eye. If you prefer using a lash comb, stick with the safer versions that have plastic teeth. I'd also advise against the © Full Coverage Kabuki Brush ($28), which is hard to hold and, for the manner in which it is used, not soft enough, and the too-stiff, scratchy © Brow Brush ($12).

If you look at the gears that power these units, you'll notice that the Vita-Mix has a larger gear with larger teeth than the K-Tec. I think this is a design failure on the part of K-Tec. Their blender, being more powerful, really needs a larger set of teeth in order to power through some of these high-density food ingredients. When using the K-Tec blender for very tough foods, I've become concerned that I'm grinding away the teeth, and that's not a nice feeling.
But there's no doubt about the power of the K-Tec unit. If you're grinding up flax seeds, you want to use the HP3 K-Tec blender. |

This is all covered on the official Coca-Cola website where they dutifully explain that coke won't dissolve your teeth because it doesn't spend much time in your mouth. In other words, you swallow the acidic beverage before it can disintegrate your teeth, and isn't that just brilliant! I can just imagine two college students standing around with a bottle of commercial degreaser: "Jeez, man, don't put that in your mouth. It will dissolve your teeth!" And the other guy says, "Don't worry, I'm swallowing it before it can do any damage."
I'm not kidding. |

?Start with a small exercise, such as fetching your coat and walking, in which you stay focused c ompletely on what you are doing.
Engage in mental noting, in which you label an ongoing activity, for example, "I'm putting on my coat," "opening the door," "tying my shoes."
Use mindfulness in every ordinary situation. When you are preparing dinner or even brushing your teeth, be aware of all the smells, textures, colors, and sensual feelings you are experiencing. |

I began a vegan protocol. Detoxing my system produced very positive results. The double heartbeat rarely occurs. The ganglian wrist cyst healed. Cystic acne cleared, and my skin is healthy. I no longer grind my teeth during sleep. The homework and lectures gave me much to consider. Today I take a stronger role in my relationships meeting my expectations, not only the other person's. Toothpaste is supposed to help clean your teeth, but what it actually does just might horrify you. When tap water meets toothpaste, the triclosan reacts freely with the chlorine in the tap water to become chloroform (a chlorinated aromatic) and is similar to the dioxins found in the compound Agent Orange. It's a chemical reaction occurring right in your mouth while you brush your teeth. |
| Children are at the greatest risk, as they tend to swallow their toothpaste more while brushing their teeth.)
According to the National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides (NCAMP), "Manufacturers of a number of triclosan-containing toothpaste and soap products claim that the active ingredient continues to work for as long as 12 hours after use. Thus, consumers are exposed to triclosan for much longer than the 20 seconds it takes to wash their hands or brush their teeth."
"These products produce low levels of chloroform, but that adds up over time. |

The increased prevalence of dental problems, including periodontitis (bacterial destruction of the bone and tissue supporting the teeth), abscesses, gingivitis (inflamed gums), dry mouth, and soft tissue lesions, among people with prediabetes or diabetes is associated with oxidative stress, glycation-induced damage, and increased risk of infection in gum tissue. Glycotoxins damage blood vessels, collagen, and other tissues and thus compromise the health of the gums and teeth. |

Calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth and for muscle contraction. Dark green leafy vegetables, brown bread and various pulses are good sources of this mineral. The RDA is 800 mg. Magnesium is involved in healthy bones and teeth, energy metabolism and muscle movement. The best plant sources are unrefined cereals, peanuts and vegetables. The RDA is 300 mg. Phosphorus is important in the calcification process. It has a recorded RDA of 800 mg in the EU. |

The estrogenic properties of bisphenol-A (BPA) was known as early as 1936, yet children now have their teeth coated with plastic containing BPA. The ADA denies any problem and goes on coating teeth. Food and drink cans are lined with it. Some plasfic baby bottles contain it and other plasticizers. In April 1999, Consumer Reports Special Report advised parents to dispose of soft vinyl teethers and toys that infants sometimes suck or chew, and all clear, shiny plastic baby bottles, unless the manufacturer tells you they're not made of polycarbonate, which leaches BPA. |
